After careful consideration, WIST has chosen a curriculum road map that delivers 21st Century skills and the rigour of the internationally recognised Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE and IBO Diploma Programmes.

The IMYC is a middle years curriculum is aimed at 11-14 year olds and has the following benefits:

  • It helps and responds to the specific development needs of 11-14 year olds, providing structures and systems that support the needs of the adolescent brain
  • It involves active skills-based learning, and promotes self-reflection and the opportunity for students to make sense of their learning
  • It is a relevant and engaging curriculum that centers around a challenging Big Idea for life
  • The IMYC allows for single subject teaching and learning whilst facilitating collaboration around a Big Idea, linking all subject learning to a conceptual them
  • Offering a student-led learning structure, the IMYC helps 11-14 year olds develop a sense of their place in the world and that of others
  • The IMYC prepares students for the next stage of their learning and for future work opportunities
  • Assessment is done through the IMYC Assessment for Learning (AfL) Programme, which tracks students’ skills learning through beginning, developing and mastering for every age group

In Years 10 and 11 we will be offering IGCSE subjects using the Pearson-Edexcel and Cambridge International Assessments.

At WIST we will use a targeted and personalised approach, led by trained teachers and educational leaders that will provide a course of study tailored to your child’s needs and aspirations.

The course will give the students the opportunity to be responsible for themselves. Indeed, it’s the student who is in charge of designing his/her own curriculum, depending on his/her personal interests, talents and the future he/she wants to build. From a list of subjects, the students can choose those that are more suitable to them and at which level to study the chosen subjects. Doing this, they are encouraged to actively get engaged in the making of their own future and life.

Our IGCSE courses provide the students with a high-level education that allows them to aim high and gain success. By virtue of the excellent preparation it gives to students, IGCSE is the first step towards the admittance to the most prestigious universities all around the world.

Because it is a two-year programme, it allows students to better understand what they like most and what they instead dislike, before deciding the subjects to take for their Diploma. After the IGCSE, in fact, students are asked to opt for pre-university studies and decide what subjects to focus on.

WIST, being in an international school allows the students to experience their education together with fellow students coming from all over the world, sharing passions, adversity, interests and life experiences with them. Students from the most different countries decide to enrol at such a high-quality programme and have the opportunity to share this experience with foreign peers, thus discovering and getting to know different cultures and customs. Growing up in an international environment makes the students develop open-mindedness and acceptance towards cultural diversity.

Any students wishing to enrol in Y12 for August 2020, we will be offering a comprehensive programme of AS and A Level courses offered by Pearson-Edexcel. These universally accepted and respected courses offer entry into all prestigious universities both at home and abroad.

Students New to English and ESL Students and admission to Secondary

Students proficiency in English will be assessed upon entry to WIST. English support will be delivered according to the needs of the individual student. Support will be given outside of mainstream classes in small groups and via in class support by fully qualified bilingual teachers. Students with all levels of English are eligible for entry into the Secondary School, as set out in the WIST Admissions Policy.

From September 2021, we will be offering the IB Diploma in Year 12.

Here students are involved in a world-recognized programme, which promotes a well-balanced education.  It promotes international and intercultural awareness.

The IBDP’s strength comes also from things within the IB’s Mission Statement:

  • Holistic Learning – Through things such as the Extended Essay, TOK and CAS, the IBDP also has an extra emphasis on the interrelatedness of the subjects. This encourages the students to consider issues and problems from a variety of points of view. Students learn to combine relevant knowledge, experience and critical thinking to solve real problems.
  • Intercultural Awareness – The IBDP develops students’ attitudes, knowledge and skills as they learn about their own and others’ cultures. IBDP teaching and learning encourages tolerance, respect and empathy. This is an essential part of education to create a better and more peaceful world in the future.
  • Communication – Good command of one’s own language enables clear expression of ideas, attitudes and feelings. The learning of other languages extends the student’s ability to communicate and it teaches appreciation of different cultures and ways of thinking. Good communication is also about listening to others and understanding variations.

Overall, the IBDP, with the emphasis on academic rigour and  is especially designed to help adolescents adjust to life in the 21st century – they learn to cope with a constantly-changing and increasingly-interconnected world. The IB courses emphasise, through the Learner Profile, the physical, intellectual, social, emotional and ethical development of the whole person.

During this next academic year WIST will be enriching the curriculum with a programme of outdoor pursuits and we have employed a Model United Nations specialist who will be responsible for initiating this programme for the 2020-21 academic year. We will also be offering a range of sporting activities in our world class indoor air conditioned gymnasium, our indoor heated pool and our first class outside full sized football pitch.
